After reporting a massive X(Twitter) database leak today, Cyber Press Researchers discovered another sensitive data leak on a well-known Data breach forum containing 1.4 GB of classified National Security Agency (NSA) data.
The National Security Agency (NSA) is a United States government agency responsible for global monitoring, collection, and processing of information and data for foreign and domestic intelligence and counterintelligence purposes.
The NSA, part of the U.S. Department of Defense, specializes in signals intelligence (SIGINT), cybersecurity, and cryptographic research. It safeguards U.S. communications and information systems while conducting espionage to collect foreign intelligence. The agency’s operations are highly classified and utilize advanced technology and methods.
Threat actors claim that the data was allegedly obtained from Acuity Inc data breach., a company that works closely with the United States government and its allies.
This breach raises serious national security concerns and highlights vulnerabilities within government contractors’ cybersecurity measures.
The data breach forum user named as “Gostingr” uploaded the classified file to the data leak forum on July 9, 2024, intending to release this large NSA database .
What Was Exposed?
During the investigation, the Cyber Press team observed the leaked file named “rFDY.txt” contains data including the following data:
- Full names
- Emails
- Office numbers
- Personal cell numbers
Furthermore, the 1.4 GB of leaked data also contains an extensive collection of email addresses belonging to Government officials from various entities such as the Government, Military, and Pentagon.
Cyber Press Researchers also observed that the leaked files include classified information and communications sent among the intelligence partnerships known as the 5 Eyes, 14 Eyes, and the United States’ allies.
The exposure of such a vast amount of sensitive information is a significant blow to the NSA, an agency responsible for national security and intelligence gathering.
The leak threatens the personal security of NSA employees and poses a risk to national security operations. Adversaries could potentially use the classified data to undermine U.S. interests domestically and internationally.
At the time of reporting, there has been no official statement from Acuity Inc. or any of the Five Eyes member countries regarding the authenticity of the disclosed documents or the severity of the breach.
The lack of communication from official channels has resulted in apprehension and speculation among government officials and cybersecurity experts.
The validity of the claims made by the hackers is likely to be verified through the implementation of comprehensive investigations by cybersecurity agencies.
Despite the fact that it is still unknown how the hackers got access, the Cyber Press team has reached out to US gov and NSA officials in order to inform them about the data leak. Currently, we are awaiting a response.
