Tenable Holdings, Inc., a global leader in cybersecurity and exposure management, has announced with deep sadness the unexpected passing of its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Amit Yoran.
The 52-year-old visionary, who had been courageously battling cancer, passed away yesterday.
Amit Yoran was widely regarded as a pioneer in the cybersecurity industry, dedicating his career to building a safer digital world.
Under his steadfast leadership, Tenable became a global frontrunner in managing and mitigating cybersecurity risks.
His relentless pursuit of innovation, coupled with his transformative vision, shaped not only Tenable but also the wider cybersecurity community.
“Amit was an extraordinary leader, colleague, and friend,” said Art Coviello, Tenable’s lead independent director, who will now serve as Chairman of the Board.
“His passion for cybersecurity, his strategic foresight, and his ability to inspire those around him defined his leadership.
He built a culture of excellence at Tenable that will endure as his legacy.”
A Legacy of Achievement in Cybersecurity
Amit Yoran joined Tenable as CEO in 2016, quickly driving the company through a period of rapid growth.
One of the highlights of his tenure was steering the company through its successful initial public offering (IPO) in 2018, a pivotal moment in Tenable’s history.
Before joining Tenable, he held several prominent roles in the tech sector, including serving as President of RSA Security and as the founding CEO of NetWitness, a company that redefined network security.
Yoran’s influence extended far beyond these roles. As an innovator and thought leader in cybersecurity, he left an indelible mark on the industry.
His contributions to exposure management and cyber resilience remain integral to protecting modern enterprises against emerging threats.
According to the Tenable statement, Amit Yoran began a medical leave of absence on December 5, 2024, during which time Tenable’s Board of Directors appointed CFO Steve Vintz and COO Mark Thurmond as Co-CEOs to provide strategic stability.
Both will continue in their interim roles as the company initiates a comprehensive CEO search, considering both internal and external candidates.
Despite the leadership transition, Tenable confirmed that the company remains on track to meet or exceed its financial guidance for Q4 and full-year results, as previously announced in October 2024.
Remembering Amit Yoran
Amit Yoran’s passing has left the cybersecurity world mourning the loss of a leader whose vision and ingenuity made the digital landscape safer for businesses and individuals alike.
His dedication, not only to Tenable but also to the broader mission of advancing cybersecurity, will continue to inspire future generations of leaders in the field.
Tenable expressed its heartfelt condolences to Yoran’s family and loved ones, extending gratitude for the remarkable legacy he leaves behind.
