Darktrace, a global leader in artificial intelligence (AI) for cybersecurity, has announced its proposed acquisition of Cado Security, a UK-based specialist in cloud investigation and response solutions.
The deal, subject to regulatory approval, is expected to finalize in February 2025.
This move reflects Darktrace’s commitment to enhancing its capabilities in securing hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
Cado Security is recognized for its expertise in cloud data capture and forensic investigations.
Its platform supports a wide range of environments, including multi-cloud, containerized, serverless, SaaS, and on-premises systems.
By eliminating blind spots in incident response, Cado enables organizations to detect and respond to cyber threats more effectively.
The company’s technology captures detailed snapshots of system data for forensic analysis, uncovering potential compromises or malicious activity.
Darktrace plans to integrate Cado’s forensic investigation technology into its ActiveAI Security Platform™.
This integration will enhance data collection across diverse cloud environments, bolstering the platform’s ability to defend customer operations.
Additionally, the acquisition is expected to augment Darktrace’s Cyber AI Analyst™, which automates threat investigations and prioritizes incidents to reduce alert fatigue for cybersecurity teams.
A Strategic Fit for Growth and Innovation
Cado Security was co-founded by James Campbell and Chris Doman.
Campbell brings extensive experience in cyber incident response and intelligence operations, having previously led Australia’s National Incident Response capability at the Australian Signals Directorate.
Doman is a renowned threat researcher and the creator of ThreatCrowd, a popular threat intelligence portal later integrated into AT&T’s AlienVault Open Threat Exchange.
Commenting on the acquisition, Darktrace CEO Jill Popelka stated: “At Darktrace, our mission is to deliver best-in-class cybersecurity solutions through continuous innovation. Cado’s expertise in cloud-based data collection and forensics will enhance our ability to protect customers across all areas of their business operations. Together, we aim to help organizations quickly prevent and deter cyber threats while maintaining resilience in an evolving threat landscape.”
Cado CEO James Campbell expressed enthusiasm for the partnership: “Darktrace is an excellent fit for Cado. This collaboration provides an opportunity for growth and innovation while allowing our team to advance their careers within a dynamic organization deeply committed to R&D. Our combined technologies will elevate AI-driven cybersecurity capabilities for our global customer base.”
Strengthening Cloud Security Amid Rising Threats
The acquisition aligns with Darktrace’s strategic focus on cloud security as businesses increasingly migrate their operations to cloud platforms.
According to Darktrace research, cloud and SaaS platforms are frequent entry points for cybercriminals targeting organizational networks.
The 2024 Darktrace State of AI Cybersecurity Report also identified cloud security as a critical area where defensive AI could have the greatest impact.
This deal builds on Darktrace’s recent achievements in cloud security innovation.
Following the successful launch of Darktrace / CLOUD™ for AWS in October 2023 and its expansion to Microsoft Azure in October 2024, the company continues to invest in solutions that address the growing complexity of securing cloud-based environments.
A Commitment to R&D Excellence
Cado’s research and development (R&D) teams based in London and Bristol will collaborate with Darktrace’s established R&D centers in Cambridge, UK, and The Hague, Netherlands.
This partnership aims to drive further innovation in Cloud Detection and Response capabilities.
The acquisition also reflects Darktrace’s growth strategy under Thoma Bravo ownership.
Since being acquired by the private equity firm in October 2024, Darktrace has emphasized accelerating product development and expanding its AI-augmented cybersecurity solutions.
With nearly 10,000 customers worldwide across various industries, Darktrace continues to lead the way in using AI-driven technologies to protect organizations from evolving cyber threats.
