Microsoft Releases Fix for Windows 11 24H2 Bluetooth Audio Malfunction Affecting Headsets and Speakers

Microsoft has successfully resolved a critical audio compatibility issue that left thousands of Windows 11 version 24H2 users without functioning Bluetooth headsets, speakers, and integrated laptop audio devices.

The company released a targeted driver update on September 12, 2025, addressing widespread complaints from users whose audio devices became completely unresponsive after upgrading to the latest operating system version.

Root Cause Identified as Dirac Audio Incompatibility

The audio disruption stemmed from a conflict between Windows 11 24H2 and the cridspapo.dll component of Dirac Audio, a third-party sound enhancement technology commonly pre-installed on many laptop and desktop systems.

When the new operating system attempted to load this specific DLL file during startup, it triggered a system-wide audio failure that rendered all connected audio devices invisible to both Windows and third-party applications.

Users reported that their Bluetooth headphones, wireless speakers, and even built-in laptop speakers simply stopped working entirely.

The issue was particularly frustrating because affected devices appeared completely absent from Windows audio settings, making traditional troubleshooting methods ineffective.

Microsoft first acknowledged the problem on December 18, 2024, following numerous reports from consumers and enterprise IT administrators.

Microsoft’s Response and Solution Timeline

To prevent further installations on vulnerable systems, Microsoft immediately implemented a compatibility safeguard hold, effectively blocking Windows Update from offering the 24H2 upgrade to devices containing the problematic Dirac Audio component.

This protective measure was tracked using safeguard ID 54283088 for enterprise administrators managing updates through Windows Update for Business.

The technology giant worked closely with Dirac Audio developers to create a replacement driver that maintains sound enhancement functionality while ensuring full compatibility with Windows 11 24H2.

The updated driver completely replaces the faulty cridspapo.dll file and restores normal audio operation across all previously affected devices.

Obtaining the Audio Fix

Windows 11 Home and Pro users can verify their update eligibility by navigating to Settings > Windows Update and selecting “Check for updates.”

Systems previously subject to the compatibility hold will display a message indicating “Upgrade to Windows 11 is on its way to your device” with detailed safeguard information available through the “Learn more” option.

Microsoft lifted the compatibility restrictions on September 11, 2025, allowing eligible devices to receive the 24H2 update automatically.

The company advises that updates may take up to 48 hours to appear, though users can potentially expedite the process by restarting their devices to trigger immediate update checks.

The resolution represents a significant relief for affected users who had been forced to rely on wired audio connections or revert to previous Windows versions to restore audio functionality.
