Microsoft Teams for Android Flaw Lets Attackers Leak Sensitive Information Over Network

Microsoft has released security updates for an information disclosure vulnerability in Microsoft Teams for Android that could allow an authorized attacker to expose sensitive data over a network.

Tracked as CVE-2026-65812, the security issue is rated Important and was disclosed by Microsoft on September 8, 2026.

The vulnerability is classified under CWE-201, “Insertion of Sensitive Information Into Sent Data.” This weakness occurs when an application includes confidential information in data transmitted to another system or endpoint without sufficient safeguards.

In the Teams for Android case, successful exploitation could disclose credentials, potentially giving an attacker access to authentication material that should not be exposed during network communications.

Microsoft’s advisory describes the issue as affecting Microsoft Teams for Android and identifies the fixed application build as 1416/1.0.0.2026133602.

Organizations and users should update Teams through the Google Play Store or their enterprise mobile application-management platform to receive the security fix.

According to Microsoft’s exploitability assessment, exploitation is considered “Exploitation Less Likely.” The company also said the vulnerability was not publicly disclosed before the security update and was not known to be exploited in the wild at the time of publication.

These factors reduce immediate risk but do not eliminate the need for prompt patching, particularly in organizations that use Teams for business messaging, meetings, file collaboration, and identity-integrated workflows.

The flaw requires an authorized attacker, meaning an adversary would need valid access to the affected environment or application context before attempting exploitation. This requirement may limit opportunistic attacks from unauthenticated internet-based attackers.

However, insider threats, compromised accounts, malicious mobile applications, or attackers who have already obtained a foothold in an enterprise environment could potentially benefit from weaknesses that expose credentials or other sensitive transmitted data.

Credential disclosure is especially significant for enterprise collaboration platforms. Teams commonly connects with Microsoft Entra ID identities and may provide access to conversations, shared files, meeting details, business contacts, and connected Microsoft 365 resources.

If credentials or authentication-related data are exposed, an attacker could attempt account takeover, move laterally within an organization, or use stolen information in follow-on phishing and social-engineering activity.

Security teams should verify that managed Android devices have received the updated Teams build and should review mobile-device compliance policies for delayed or blocked application updates.

Administrators can use mobile device management telemetry to identify devices running outdated Teams versions and require remediation where appropriate.

Organizations should also maintain strong identity controls, including multifactor authentication, conditional access policies, session monitoring, and rapid revocation procedures for suspected credential exposure.
