Windows 11 Rolls Out New Black Screen of Death for Users

Microsoft has announced the release of Windows 11 Build 26100.4762 (KB5062660) to Windows Insiders in the Release Preview Channel, marking another significant update to the company’s flagship operating system.

This latest build, released on July 10, 2025, introduces substantial improvements to AI-powered features, system resilience, and user experience across multiple areas of the platform.

AI-Powered Features Lead the Charge with Recall and Click-to-Do Enhancements

The standout feature of this release centers around significant improvements to Microsoft’s AI capabilities, particularly the Recall feature and Click to Do functionality.

For users in the European Economic Area, Recall now supports exporting snapshots to share with trusted third-party applications and websites, addressing privacy concerns while maintaining functionality. Key improvements include:

  • Unique Export Code System: The system generates a unique export code during initial setup that Microsoft does not store or recover, ensuring user control over their data
  • Comprehensive Reset Option: Users can now delete all snapshots and reset their settings through a new advanced settings page
  • Enhanced Privacy Controls: Third-party apps can access exported snapshots only when both the export code and folder path are provided

Additionally, Microsoft has introduced a comprehensive reset option for Recall, allowing users to delete all snapshots and reset their settings through a new advanced settings page.

This feature provides users with greater control over their privacy and data management within the Recall ecosystem.

The Click to Do feature has received substantial enhancements, particularly for Copilot+ PC users.

New text actions include “Practice in Reading Coach” for improving reading fluency and pronunciation, “Read with Immersive Reader” for distraction-free reading experiences, and “Draft with Copilot in Word” for transforming recognized text into full drafts.

These features require the installation of Microsoft Reading Coach from the Microsoft Store, with the Word integration requiring a Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription.

System Resilience and User Experience Improvements

Microsoft has implemented significant changes as part of the Windows Resiliency Initiative announced at Ignite 2024.

The introduction of Quick Machine Recovery represents a major advancement in system reliability, automatically detecting and fixing widespread issues using the Windows Recovery Environment.

This feature reduces downtime and eliminates the need for manual fixes, with IT administrators able to customize the experience through the Intune Settings Catalog UI.

The update also includes a redesigned interface for unexpected restarts, featuring a more streamlined design that aligns with Windows 11’s visual style while maintaining technical detail visibility.

This improvement helps users return to work faster while providing necessary diagnostic information.

Settings functionality has been enhanced with a new AI agent specifically designed for Copilot+ PCs.

This agent helps users find and change settings by understanding natural language requests such as “how to control my PC by voice” or “my mouse pointer is too small.”

The agent can automate and complete tasks with user permission, initially supporting Snapdragon-powered devices, with AMD and Intel support coming soon.

Bug Fixes and Performance Optimizations

This build addresses numerous stability and performance issues that have affected user experience.

Critical fixes include resolving Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS) responsiveness issues during machine password changes, correcting File Explorer Home display problems, and addressing memory exhaustion issues in the Resilient File System when using backup applications on large files.

The update also tackles specific user interface problems, including fixes for desktop icon display issues after app updates, notification toast interaction problems, and File Explorer address bar dropdown accessibility.

Performance improvements extend to SharePoint site synchronization, reducing the degradation experienced when navigating through folders and opening context menus.

Microsoft has also enhanced the Windows Search experience by consolidating search settings into a single location under Settings > Privacy & security > Search, providing a more intuitive and modern interface for managing search preferences.

This comprehensive update demonstrates Microsoft’s continued commitment to improving both the AI capabilities and fundamental stability of Windows 11, addressing user feedback while introducing innovative features that enhance productivity and system reliability.
