A notorious dark web marketplace has allegedly put up for sale the credit card details of 672,258 Israeli citizens.
The alarming report was first brought to light by DarkWebInformer, a prominent cybercrime watchdog.
According to the post, the massive data breach includes sensitive financial information such as card numbers, expiration dates, and CVV codes, sparking concerns over widespread fraud and identity theft.
The breach has sent shockwaves through Israel’s financial sector and raised serious questions about the security measures in place to protect citizens’ data.
While the hackers’ identity behind this breach remains unclear, CornDB has gained notoriety recently as a hub for illicit activities, including the sale of stolen personal data and financial information.
The marketplace operates on the dark web, making it difficult for authorities to track down those responsible.
Cybersecurity experts have expressed grave concerns about the potential implications of such a large-scale leak.
“This is one of the largest breaches we’ve seen in Israel,” said Avi Cohen, a leading cybersecurity analyst based in Tel Aviv.
“The fact that this data is being sold on the dark web means that it could be used for various forms of financial fraud, including unauthorized transactions and identity theft.
“Israeli banks and credit card companies have reportedly been alerted to the breach and are taking steps to mitigate potential damage.
Many institutions have already begun issuing warnings to customers and advising them to monitor their accounts for suspicious activity.
Some banks are also considering reissuing cards as a precautionary measure.
The Israeli government’s cyber defense unit is investigating the breach in collaboration with international law enforcement agencies.
However, tracking down the perpetrators may prove challenging due to the anonymity provided by dark web platforms like CornDB.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the growing threat posed by cybercriminals and highlights the need for stronger cybersecurity protections.
As investigations continue, Israeli citizens are urged to remain vigilant and take immediate action if they suspect their financial information has been compromised.
