Fuji Electric Indonesia (FEID), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fuji Electric Company Limited, has fallen victim to a ransomware attack.
This breach has rendered several PCs and servers in their local network inoperable, raising concerns over potential data leaks involving sensitive business information.
Discovery and Initial Response
The attack was first detected on Wednesday, November 27th, when FEID discovered that several of its PCs and servers were inaccessible.
Suspecting a malware infection, the company took immediate action by disconnecting LAN cables and halting Internet communications to contain the spread of the attack.
These measures were crucial in preventing further damage while an investigation into the cause began.
On Thursday, November 28th, they confirmed the involvement of ransomware and brought in external cybersecurity experts to aid in assessing the damage and restoring system functionality.
Concerns Over Data Breach
A worry in the wake of this ransomware attack is the potential leakage of important business data.
FEID is actively investigating the full extent of the breach, but there are initial concerns that sensitive information from business partners—including company names, contact persons, and related details—might have been compromised.
Employee information is also potentially at risk.
The company has reported the incident to local authorities and is working closely with experts to determine the full scope of the breach and implement measures to secure its systems against future threats.
Ongoing Recovery and Future Security Measures
In response to this attack, FEID is prioritizing efforts to resolve the situation and protect the interests of its stakeholders.
They are collaborating with the police, the Ministry of Communication and Digital, and cybersecurity specialists to address the breach.
Additionally, FEID has committed to notifying each potentially affected business partner individually to maintain transparency and trust.
In light of this incident, Fuji Electric is reevaluating and strengthening its cybersecurity protocols not only within FEID but across its global operations.
This proactive stance is aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future and enhancing overall data protection measures.
